The Mayfly Dance is Caan Hamlet, Lani Ware, Mikel Farber, and Tony Peluso, but they were briefly known as The Cervine Furs. They were also a folk band for most of ’09 and ’10, before things took a psychedelic turn. Hamlet (who toured with Devendra Banhart before moving to L.A. from London) and Ware are the main songwriters of the band, the song in this video, “Shivers,” was written by drummer Peluso, of Insect VS Robots, and you might recognize it from a few other bands in town play it, too. The video was filmed by Jeff of Jeffertitti’s Nile at a recent benefit. He filmed it through a prism ornament that happened to be hanging behind the stage. Jeff likes prisms, and he’s filling in for Peluso on drums this Saturday for The Mayfly Dance at the Moon Block Party in Pomona, at 4:45 pm. Lots of people will be getting psychedelic before sunset.
