[NSFW] THE WORLD NAKED BIKE RIDE LOS ANGELES

L.A. RECORD went to the first World Naked Bike Ride happening in Los Angeles. Something like 100,000 people in 100 major cities in 29 different countries around the world take their clothes off and ride bikes on this one day—which happened on June 12, 2010 at 4pm.

Before the ride, people gathered at the startpoint to be painted. A guy in a fake naked suit took a very long time to paint two plain handprints on a girl’s boobs. Lotion, beer, whiskey, glitter and cannabis passed between hands as clothes shed in the name of freedom. No hard-ons were spotted—it wasn’t about that—but it was hard not to enjoy seeing all the different bodies. Big, small, round, skinny, hairy, bald, bearded, tattooed, pierced, and pale, being eco-friendly and taboo. Ask yourself: Would you do it? Why or why not?

The ride kept its clothes off through Echo Park, Downtown, and passed through Chinatown to forge the L.A. River. As they approached Fletcher Dr., a group of cop cars gathered in the distance, glimmering like a road block from a fugitive chase. People put on their coverings but that doesn’t mean they failed. It means those cops let a thief and maybe even a murder happen while they chased down hippies riding bikes.
