LANGHORNE SLIM @ SPACELAND

“Are we ready to have one of the best nights in Los Angeles history?!” With a sugar sweet voice that grew husky as the night stretched out, Langhorne Slim, born Sean Scolnick, reminded the Spaceland crowd just how great an old fashioned hootenanny could be by recreating the foot-stomping, barn raising, cow-tipping, folky sound that probably resonates from half a million bars across this country.  Is it new? No.  The sound is a reproduction of 1960s country favorites.  Is it different? Not really. If you had told me this was a cover band for Ricky Nelson, I would have believed you. That being said, it’s a freaking good time.  These boys really know how to put on a show.  The bassist was incredible, making his bass jump and sing as three different instruments, beating it, sawing at it and plucking it.  The drummer kept impeccable time and somehow managed to see through his thick hair. Electrified by the country-fried sound the crowd paired up and started to whirl their drunken bodies around  Spaceland with varying degrees of success.
