ALBUM REVIEW: FROM LEAF TO FEATHER

Although it’s a little too early in the season to be dreaming about cold weather, From Leaf to Feather’s debut is sure to keep listeners cool through the summertime heat waves. Though seemingly schizophrenic—wavering between minimal blip-heavy electronica and bossa nova-inspired dream pop—the album still remains true to the careful construction of soundscapes. My only gripe is that the interesting, delay-heavy vocal melodies accent a disappointingly small number of tracks on the album, and just slightly redeem songs like “The Hamster and the Heir” and “Sunshine Rock and Roll,” whose generic “oohs” and “yeahs” put the band on a fast-track to television commercial fame. Otherwise, the record itself is very accessible without compromising the unique quality of From Leaf to Feather’s creative vibe. “Albeit,” which to me sounds like a much more robust Mice Parade song, showcases the band at its best—an upbeat summer anthem in the making.
