L.A. RECORD!

FLASPAR / LUCKY DRAGONS / MORE @ PEHRSPACE

August 22nd, 2007 · No Comments

MONDAY, AUGUST 13:

It was a weird night because I found myself going in and out and missing a couple of bands. SORRY GUYS. Lucky Dragons went first and kept the entire room completely engrossed in a way that I’ve never seen a laptop band do. Lucky Dragons is unique because “bands” like that tend to be kind of trying; no matter what happens musically during a set, a dude standing and/or dancing around a laptop is still boring as fuck. But this time there were live drums, videos, and this huge rope thing that made fucked up noises depending on how many people at a time held it. And he tried to make everyone hold it. Foot Foot are always gorgeous. A friend of mine told me they’re the closest a band will ever come to being a female-fronted Silver Jews. Observation of the year? FLASPAR (stands for ‘Feel Like A Special Person And Relax’) started in Vegas years ago and have done albums that encompass everything from psychedelic dance music to IDM and prank-call records. A little over a year ago, the band moved to Portland (original!) and reformed with a girl singing and then they turned into a prog band. The drummer doesn’t have a bass drum and despite that, he’s the best drummer I’ve ever seen, and the nicest dude I’ve ever met. FLASPAR WILL LIVE ON FOREVER! (HK)
