ANDREW BIRD @ THE WILTERN THEATRE

Multi-instrumentalist/singer/songwriter (known for his violin and whistle blowing skills) Andrew Bird kicked off his national summer tour at The Wiltern Theatre last night.
Fresh off the release of his latest album My Finest Work Yet, the Chicago native played a lengthy set that began with side A of the release. Bird and his band then played a string of older tunes, followed by side B, and rounded out the show with some more older gems. We were treated to a 5-song encore, which started with Bird and his bandmates gathered around a mic at stage left playing both originals and covers like the American jazz standard “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love” in a stripped down style.
Local OC native and LA resident Madison Cunningham, who also played in Bird’s band, opened the show. She’ll be back in LA at the Bootleg in October after the release of her forthcoming full-length album in August.
