IONNALEE + ALLIE X @ THE FONDA THEATRE
A glittered filled audience welcomed Swedish avant-garde pop singer-songwriter ionnalee, aka Jonna Lee, to The Fonda Theatre. The talented songstress staged a visually and sonically stunning show. We were mesmerized as ionnalee danced and sprinkled in images of the cosmos, wearing a variety of opulent, futuristic looks designed by Comme des Garçons.
Drag queen Vander Von Odd joined her on stage for “Not Human,” looking like an otherworldly version of Maleficent. Zola Jesus also joined ionnalee for their collaboration “Matters,” off ionnalee’s new album Remember the Future, performing it together for the first time in front of an audience.
When ionnalee returned for her encore, fans lifted long-stem roses, making for a sea of flowers. As she sang “Remember the Future,” her loving fans tossed the roses on stage, blanketing it in pastels. Another fan tossed a hand-made crown onto the stage, and ionnalee adorned her head with the tinfoil crown, while dancing on her bed of roses.
Allie X opened the show. The Canadian singer-songwriter riled up the crowd, who sang and danced along to favorites like “Casanova” and “Focus.” A gentleman in the audience described Allie X “like a Palm Springs house party.”
