Japanese Breakfast, a solo project by Michelle Zauner, stopped by the Fonda Theatre before continuing on to this year’s Austin City Limits. Last year Zauner was one of twelve artists picked by Polyvinyl to record two tracks using a Tascam 4-track cassette recorder. Recently those singles “2042” and “Posing in Bondage” were posed online. Previously they were only available as a vinyl box set. Zauner performed “2042” which she describes as a song about the colonization of Mars. We felt the nostalgia that only a David Lynch film could invoke with “Boyish” and wrapped up the show with “Machinist,” which is about falling in love with a robot.

Montreal’s post-punk band Ought opened up the show with short set that included “Desire” and “These 3 Things” off their album Room Inside the World released earlier this year.
