The EELS played their second show of The Triumphant Return of EELS: The World’s Number One Entertainers tour in support of their latest baby The Deconstruction to an eager crowd on Wednesday evening.

As the tour’s name suggests, EELS, especially Mark Oliver Everett (“E”), played up the entertaining aspects of their show through the music that accompanied them on stage-the expected witty humor interspersed between songs.

Instead of introducing the band quickly as most lead singers do, E has his own special way of doing so – astrological signs. E started with his own sign. “Fuck all the music. Let’s talk. Alright, let’s start with me. Although I’m on a different riser than some of the guys, I’m still technically part of the band-I’m an Aries. Some little known facts about me-I wrote a book-there are no little known facts about me. Ladies and gentlemen, me.”

The Chet (Jeff Lyster) is a Virgo. A little known fact about him. He lost his virginity in a single wide trailer in Cucamonga, California while listening to the Rush album, Hemispheres.

Big Al (Allen Hunter) on bass guitar is a Taurus-mighty like the bull. Some little known facts about him-he’s one of eight children and once a Mormom missionary in Japan for two years in which time he converted exactly two Japanese people to Mormonism.

There was a new guy on drums. We were told not to ask about Knuckles (Derek Brown). He was in hospital and it’s embarrassing. We were asked to keep an open mind and welcome drummer Little Joe (Pisces with Virgo rising). The EELS then went into a little diddy about Little Joe. Joe was accepted.

It was good times with the EELS. During the double encore, opener Puddles Pity Party helped close the show and with his outstanding vocals. There were songs to sway to and songs we rocked out to, including “I Like Birds” and “Souljacker Part I” and got into some Prince covers.
