“It’s been a long time and it’s pretty fucking fun!” Kim Deal of The Breeders exclaimed as the cherished 90s alt rock band held a sold out show for excited fans who were more than ready to hear the reunited band play songs from their brand new album All Nerve.
It’s been 25 years since this lineup recorded their last album together Last Splash-which they played in its entirety at The El Rey Theatre in 2013-and they are full speed ahead with Kim Deal (lead vox/guitar), her identical twin sister Kelley (lead guitar/vox), Josephine Wiggs (bass/vox) and Jim Macpherson (drums/percussion). New songs were played, old favorites sung to, including smash hit “Cannonball” and a few covers made for a more than special evening.
Cherry Glazerr started the evening with no lights on stage. However, the pitch-black venue quickly lit up to reveal the band is now again a trio with the recent departure of Sasami Ashworth on synths who is pursuing a solo career. Clementine Creevy rocked and owned it and got us warmed up for the might Breeders. Catch Cherry Glazerr at this year’s Coachella.
DJ Elijah Wood spun a soothing mix of both experimental rock and classic rock n’ roll before the show started.
