Mondays aren’t the most popular day of the week for an evening stroll. But if you know where to look, you might find yourself in an intimate venue experiencing some bold, new music.

On this particular Monday, Hotel Cafe hosted the Dublin quartet Cloud Castle Lake. Currently on tour in the States, they played their new single “Twins” with their debut album coming this Spring. It was Cloud Castle Lake’s first stop and first time visiting North America and were well received at Hotel Cafe, where most bands appear for the first time before moving onto bigger venues on the next go around.

Daniel McAuley (vocals/synth) began the set with a slow melody on his keyboard. Once we were all focused on the stage, guitarist and pianist Brendon William Jenkinson came in playing a low humming rhythm on his guitar. Bassist Rory O’Connor and drummer Brendan Doherty melded in as the band came together, increasing their tempo and tone as one. They were accompanied by a trumpet and tenor saxophone player that made a great addition to the band’s overall sound.
