Punk protest group Pussy Riot made their expression heard during a sold-out show at the Bootleg Theatre last night. With costume changes, political audio clips, swirling flags, bumping beats, and their balaclava face masks, the night was an exuberant piece of performance art that had us all roaring. They tapped into bits about Trump and Putin, most notably during their performance of the satirical track “Make America Great Again,” and roasted higher powers by exhuming powers of their own, raging against the patriarchy on songs like “Straight Outta Vagina.” Lead vocalist Nadya Tolokonnikova and the other members owned the stage and compelled the masses for forty-five minutes before donning militaristic paraphernalia, potentially inciting the impending clash between all peoples in the hopes that this – this very show – could bring everyone together in unity. Rapper Desi Mo opened to hype up the crowd.
