Tori Amos, the musical world’s sparkling fairy queen, graced The Theatre at Ace Hotel for an intimate evening of song, playing the first of three sold out nights at the historic venue. Although touring in support of this year’s Native Invader, the show concentrated on the entirety of Amos’s catalog and fan favorites from the past two decades.
Armed with keyboards and a grand piano, Tori Amos alone commanded everyone’s attention with her passionate playing and haunting voice. A break halfway through the set for the “Fake Muse Network” gave fans the best gift for the holidays: a stunning rendition of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” which turned into a group sing-along with the audience, and Amos’s iconic version of “The Little Drummer Boy.”
Once the finishing touches of “Girl” dissipated, fans rushed from their seats to the stage to get close to Tori Amos. After ending her encore with “Raspberry Swirl,” Amos graciously addressed the fervent fans up front before floating away and off into the night.
UK’s charming trio, Scars on 45, opened the night with a lovely acoustic set filled with effecting songs and stories.
