Those who really know their punk history were at The Echoplex last night as some punk veterans help celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Heartbreakers (not to be confused with Tommy Petty’s Heartbreakers) only album L.A.M.F. (Like A Mother Fucker) in true punk spirit.

In 1975, Johnny Thunders and Jerry Nolan quit the New York Dolls and formed The Heartbreakers with Walter Lure and Billy Rath soon joining. The band opened for the Sex Pistols during the Anarchy Tour.

So who filled Thunders, Nolan and Rath’s shoes last night? The Heartbreakers sole survivor himself Walter Lure with Blondie drummer Clem Burke, Social Distortion’s Mike Ness and original Sex Pistols’ bassist Glen Matlock. Wow. This doesn’t happen every day.

Jesse Malin, who pretty much got this to happen, opened the show and also sang a few songs on the main set.
