THE SHRINE + TRDMRK @ SHEPARD FAIREY’S DAMAGED EXHIBITION

It is definitely a damaged state we are living in and who better than Shepard Fairey and his Obey Giant empire to hold an opening for his biggest endeavor to date – DAMAGED. The Library Street Collective hosted the massive event in DTLA near the Los Angeles State Historic Park where the street was closed for people to roam. For some lucky few, 11×14 prints were handed out.
The atmosphere began with positive hip hop vibes from TRDMRK, who is formed by SlimKid3 of Pharcyde and DJ Nu-Mark of Jurrassic 5.
The party went into the highest gear possible as The Shrine rocked it hard with the downtown LA skyline in the backdrop. Josh Landau gave us a back story of “Tripping Corpse,” which is based on a friend they had who blew his brains out in the beach sands of Venice Beach. Landau was fueled with fire as he shredded the night away. Corey Parks on bass disappeared from the stage and came back with a torch. She released a couple spit fires at the end of their set. But it was far from over. The one and only Keith Morris himself joined in and Black Flag songs were played! “Rise Above,” “Nervous Breakdown” and “My War” and others had the packed in crowd in a complete frenzy. The group played all that they could until they had to be told to stop. It was a gift for any Black Flag fan to witness.
“Punk rock for the new millennium.”
