Paul Weller graced the House of Blues stage in Anaheim for a show spanning a wide breadth of material from the prolific UK songwriter’s career. The setlist was both bombastic and thrilling, especially on bluesy numbers like “Woo Se Mama,” followed by a good dose of the poignant and sublime. While the main focus was on new material off Weller’s latest A Kind Revolution, we were still treated to gems like The Style Council’s “Have You Ever Had It Blue” and “Shout to the Top!” and of course, The Jam’s “Start!”

After a 20-song main set, Weller joked his encore was only the start to the second half of the night. The extended, eight song “goodbye” gave fans a cover of Marvin Gaye’s “How Sweet It is (To Be Loved By You) before finally closing with the gleeful “Town of Malice.”

Fellow UK singer/songwriter Lucy Rose opened the night with gentle harmonies that floated serenely across the audience.
