RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS + TROMBONE SHORTY + JACK IRONS @ STAPLES CENTER
Photos and recap by Debi Del Grande
Bronchitis may have taken a hold of Anthony Kiedis last week, forcing Red Hot Chili Peppers to reschedule three dates, but Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith and Josh Klinghoffer didn’t let their hometown crowd down. Kiedis was appropriately wearing an “I Love LA” tee and the LA crowd certainly showed the love back.
The second of three sold out shows at the Staples Center had the funky bunch playing lots of hits like “Blood Sugar Sex Magik,” “Californication,” “Give it Away,” and “Soul to Squeeze.” Songs from last year’s The Getaway and a few covers completed the set list. The production was dominated by mesmerizing cylinder lighting tubes that were dropped from the ceiling, changing into different colors and direction depending on the song.
Many were already there to have a really good time with Trombone Shorty and the ever-so-talented Orleans Avenue as he lit up the arena beforehand. Parking Lot Symphony drops April 18th.
Early attendees (devoted fans) received a special treat as Flea introduced original RHCP drummer Jack Irons. Irons is on tour with RHCP doing what he does best.
