The Murder City Devils proved they still have all the fury they’ve ever had. The underground punk legends, who have never played by the rules, curated a show opened up by the deeply eccentric vibes of Corey J. Brewer and the one-man-band multitrack stylings of Joel Cuplin of Constant Lovers before unleashing their signature horror-tinged garage rock.
Main man and vocalist Spencer Moody was in finest form with guitarist Dann Gallucci (back from Cold War Kids), drummer extraordinaire Coady Willis, Derek Fudesco on bass and Matthew Schwartz on keys (still with Cold War Kids). MCD spit flames from corner-to-corner of the venue as we breathed in the goodness.
We were more than ready to go absolutely bonkers as a pit opened up in seconds and bodies flew. For the first night of their two-night stay at The Teragram Ballroom, every one of the classics was brought out — “Press Gang,” “Rum to Whiskey,” and “I Drink the Wine” — all from their classic In Name and Blood release.
That second night – is tonight. Why sit home watching the Grammys when you could be living.
