Silversun Pickups

“We’re going to stop the show right now and ask each person where they want to be buried. You in the corner, where?” asked lead vocalist/guitarist Brian Aubert of the fans packed inside The Masonic Lodge. The lovely Nikki Monninger on bass/backing vox would like to be buried by the lake. Good choice Nikki.

Not a normal segue between songs, but for one of our favorite local bands Silversun Pickups, the interaction with the crowd and each other is usually this enjoyable, and the setting made post-death planning a legitimate topic for conversation. The Silver Lake superstars closed out their four night stay at the very intimate location at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in celebration of their latest album release Better Nature. We were sweating, yet still dancing. From the quick line at the entrance to the impeccable stage dressing and incredible stage light to the professional and beautiful music spanning the decade plus career of one of LA’s sweetest success stories, the night couldn’t have been more perfect.

Playing a set heavy on new songs like “Cradle,” and “Ragamuffin,” and their newest single “Nightlight,” while also honoring their longtime supporters with “Kissing Families” and hit singles “Lazy Eye” and “Panic Switch,” made for a fun night for old and new fans alike. While all the fun has been for Los Angeles fans recently and no announced tour dates through the rest of the year, 2016 looks to be a huge year for the band.
