WEEKEND + KING WOMAN + AMANDA X + THE SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE @ THE ECHOPLEX

It seems like only Michael Stock of Part Time Punks could bring the mysterious Weekend down to LA for a show. And it seems like forever. And with such a stellar lineup, the usual spot upstairs at The Echo was taken downstairs to The Echoplex for some shoegaze heaven.
Starting the night off was Philadelphia’s The Spirit of the Beehive who let the crowd slowly descend into their soft vocals drifting throughout the room. They played songs from YOU ARE ARRIVED (but you’ve been cheated).
Also from Philly, Amanda X took the stage playing songs off Amnesia which is the follow-up to their Ruin the Moment EP in 2012. The breathy vocals and ear pleasing guitar riffs filled the room accompanied by steady, yet hard-hitting drums.
King Woman sure made an entrance engulfing the stage with smoke. Kristina Esfandiari’s powerful, yet raspy vocals reverberated through the now dimly red lit room. King Woman made it a haunting experience that no one at this venue will soon forget.
And finally, Weekend took the stage to thunderous applause from anxiously awaiting fans. The psychedelic stage background interchanged in sync with each song. Although Jinx has been out a few years, we want more. The hauntingly beautiful tones rang loud and clear. The faces in the crowd reflected with the visuals on the screen were lost in the trance of songs and you could see it was hard for them when Weekend had to finally call it a night.
