BOOTS ELECTRIC + NICK OLIVERI + SPACECREAM @ THE VIPER ROOM
Photos and words by Debi Del Grande
There was no reason to wait to party on NYE when an announcement was made via Eagles of Death Metal’s Facebook page for Jesse Hughes’ band Boots Electric to play the Viper Room December 30th. It didn’t take long for word to get around and was easily sold out. It may have been chilly outside, but it was hot as hell inside with The Devil in command.
Another EODM member, sexy-mexy drummer extraordinaire Joey Castillo was on board as well as bassist Tuesday Cross, guitarist Eden Galindo, and on keys, Jon Russo aka JBoy aka JonnyRue – Master of the Machines. In any case, it was damn good fun. It was friends and fans gathered together in a room full of good music and good vibes. Amen!
After opening and making an appearance with Queens of the Stone Age on Halloween at The Forum, it wasn’t surprising for Nick Oliveri to precede. Going solo and playing “death acoustic,” Oliveri played songs never thought could be played acoustic. Catch his band Bl’ast! (with Joey Castillo) Sunday opening for American Nightmare at the El Rey – if you can find tickets.
If you were there early, you were able to catch the vocal chops of Savannah Pope of a very interesting group called SpaceCream. The Hollywood band had to cut their set a little short, but a song about being made love to by “Tentacles” (true story) and “Leave Dracula Alone” made the cut.
