Mac DeMarco
Photos and words by David Benjamin
Los Angeles music fans cannot seem to get enough of Mac DeMarco. Headlining his first night of two at the Fonda Theatre last night, the festivities started with a hilarious set by DJ Douggpound that had some awkward moments towards the end due to a fan that appeared to be having some kind of mental episode. He handled it like a pro and the fan was taken away promptly by the venue’s medical team for assistance. After all that excitement, Chris Cohen took the stage for a mellow and easygoing set.
The crowd was there, of course, to witness their man, Mac DeMarco and they made that very apparent as the lights went out and the curtain went up. The crowd absolutely adored DeMarco and it’s not hard to figure out why. The whole show was a spectacle right down to the table with flowers they had setup on stage to let their friends, that would probably normally watch the set from side stage, taking it all in from the band’s perspective and pinnacled with DeMarco hovering over the crowd from the side of the venue’s balcony. Just your typical DeMarco extravaganza.
Some free, really cool, autographed posters were given to the first 100 people that brought 3 cans of vegetarian food. This includes tonight, so if you’re going, don’t forget! You’re also entered into a contest to win a ticket to FYF 2015.
