WARPAINT + AVID DANCER + SON OF STAN @ THE ECHOPLEX
Photos and words by Debi Del Grande
It was only the 7th show of the Redbull Sound Select Series (30 Days in LA) and this evening brought us to The Echoplex where diehard fans lined up early for heavenly Warpaint who announced this will be their last show for awhile. So we kind of knew this would be a special one and it was. Before they took the stage, 3D-type glasses were handed out as the lights on the stage were formed as hearts when you wore them. All members shone brightly as screams of “adopt me!” and “I love you” were heard throughout the night from overzealous fans. With their lush vocals and strong chemistry, Emily, Jenny Lee, Theresa and Stella created a therapeutic atmosphere as their music cascaded throughout the venue. Kurt Vile (who is also playing a Redbull Event on the 21st was swaying sidestage until he came out to play with Warpaint on the beautiful “Baby” during the encore.
Another local band that has opened for so many and finally has an EP out called I Want to See You Dance played with a lot of soul. Avid Dancer is opening for a few upcoming Cold War Kids shows, including The Regent on November 20th.
While he’s not playing drums for Ben Harper, Jordan Richardson is fronting Son of Stan. They are worth seeing alone just for Richardson’s humor between songs.
