“too noisy for new wave, too pussy for punk” can probably best describe Future Islands’ music as stated on their Twitter account. Ever since Singles came out, Future Islands has soared from playing tiny little places to selling out two consecutive nights at The Fonda Theatre. No one on the scene has dance moves like lead vocalist Samuel T. Herring – no one. Herring captivates an entire crowd from start to finish with his intensity and passion. He will look right at you and stare. But it’s not an intimidating look. It’s an invitation to join him and be connected and that’s what you do. There wasn’t any room on the floor to try to keep up with Herring’s dance moves, but the crowd tried its best. Herring, bassist William Cashion, synthmaster Gerrit Welmers, and touring drummer Michael Lowry are going to make this years FYF Fest one hell of a dance party. Catch them Saturday.
Who are the Operators, you ask? Dan Boeckner (Wolf Parade/Handsome Furs/Divine Fits), Sam Brown (Divine Fits/New Bomb Turks) and the lovely Devojka are Operators and they wasted no time in connecting with the crowd. They have a new EP, EP1, and are now on tour with Future Islands so get there early!
