DEFTONES + GLASSJAW @ THE GREEK THEATRE
Photos and words by Debi Del Grande
Give it up for “apple juice.” Is this how Chino Moreno was able to fly through the air like he did at The Greek Theatre? The sold out show was filled with diehards who were 100% there as the guys blasted through 22 songs and would have kept going had it not been for the early curfew. Argh, neighbors. “Teenager” was a pleasant surprise and “Change (In the House of Flies)” was dedicated to Chi Cheng. Moreno was closer this time to the fans than The Palladium gig and able to reach out and touch hands all through the night. Moreno can swing the mic chord without strangling himself or tripping, jump around, sing in a silky smooth voice and then go into full scream mode as I hold my beer in awe. This was a loud, heavy and beautiful show.
Opening very early was New York’s Glassjaw, who from I’ve been told, doesn’t get out here very much, so hopefully you caught them here to at The Observatory the next night.
