APHG-61
We’ve seen Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti a few times and there’s a certain excitement in not knowing if the band will make it through an entire set, or if that set will feature songs in formats we’d even recognize. Maybe it was The Fonda, or the new album (aptly titled Mature Themes), or the fact that DāM-FunK channeled First Avenue/Morris Day and the Time (pretty sure we heard him say his bassist was with Mary Jane Girls?!) as a warm up, but APHG gave one of the best shows we’ve witnessed. Despite some technical difficulties, the mostly new-album set had a polished, rich sound that we haven’t heard before at a live show. The only downside was the lack of an encore; we were excited to see what APHG would do with “Round and Round” on a night like that.

Oh, you’ve got to be kidding!
The October 5th, 2012 show, The Fonda Theatre

Warning–Medication needed to deal with this band. First, you are happy that you actually obtained a ticket for the show (Wheee), then the anticipation of the upcoming show is even making the possibility of past ‘performance issues’ fade a
s Ariel apologized and promised to make up to his fans, and then the actual show.
What WAS that?? A horrible train-wreck? Or, possibly a complete breakdown of a man on stage for all to view? NO, it was rape of fans. Rape of gas money to get to the venue from 60 miles away at $4.60/gallon; rape of money for tickets to a breakdown = $55.00, rape of parking money at $20.00, rape of eardrums–TBD, and most of all, rape of faith in a promise broken–by an accomplished song writer who NEEDS TO STAY AWAY from live performances. DON’T get ‘raped’, please enjoy this band’s music on a CD. It’s less than the parking cost!!!
Sorry folks, I have seen so many musicians throughout my life I thought nothing could surprise or hurt me. After all, musicians are artists, and artists have great talent, and we all know that many of the greats have issues–but I was figuratively ‘raped’ last night at that show!

In conclusion, beware, as the medication I was referring to is the audience constantly having to numb themselves out with alcohol ALL NIGHT in order to be subjected to the ‘show’. Since I really don’t drink, I just wonder how much more money everyone else got ‘raped’ in addition to the above forementioned costs of having a band leave the stage after only 44 minutes, loud screeching noise left on and then–seeing the lights come on and the curtin fall–IN OUR FACES gang. It was a huge ‘F_ck Y_u’ to us all.
