First, this is not your typical “supergroup.” We’ve seen those groups come and go and they just didn’t quite have the powers that we thought they would have. So what makes the musical talents of Britt Daniel (Spoon), Dan Boeckner (Wolf Parade, Handsome Furs), drummer Sam Brown (the New Bomb Turks) and added on keyboards and guitar, Alex Fischel so special? They have actually put out an album “A Thing Called Divine Fits” that is not only really good, they are even better live.
Finishing up their four-day residency in LA at intimate venues, the guys ended up playing at The Echo on Tuesday. Sharing vocal duties and switching off guitars, Daniel and Boeckner have chemistry on stage that is pure electric. With Daniel’s distinct raspy vocals and pulsating basslines combined with Boeckner’s darker, edgier sound, Divine Fits have given birth to music that we’ve been waiting for. Fresh off his FYF set, Daughn Gibson opened.
Luckily, they have added a date at The Fonda on Nov 9 with Cold Cave (and its new lineup) and it’s not to be missed.
