It has been way too long since the lads from Glasgow were here to drive us into a frenzy. Drummer Paul Thomson had made a stop to play with Yummy Fur at The Echo in 2010, which was a stellar gig. Luckily, I was able to catch FF at Outside Lands over the weekend, but it was just a tease of what was to come at The Glasshouse. The combined talents of Alex Kapranos (vox, guitar), Nick McCarthy (rhythm guitar, keys, vox), Bob Hardy (bass guitar) and Thomson (percussion, backing vox) are so solid. The sound and energy FF brings to the stage is infectious. It was a sweaty hot mess in the venue as FF played every single hit, including a crowd favorite Donna Summer cover of “I Feel Love.” Also included were new tunes “Scarlet & Blue” and major points for “Trees & Animals” from their soon-to-come album. I did see “Fallen???” on the encore setlist, but it wasn’t played. So here’s hoping the album comes out soon with a comeback to the Southland and maybe Coachella.
Our own Bleached who has been making the rounds opened while Alex Kapranos hung in the crowd catching the vibes.
