After six years, California-bred indie outfit Grandaddy played its last of a handful of California gigs this past Monday at The Fonda Theatre. Days after a slot at San Francisco’s Outside Lands Festival, Jason Lytle and his quartet managed, rather effortlessly I might add, to string together a just long-enough reunion set of their revered 2000s catalog of material from albums The Sophtware Slump and Sumday. A favorite moment came after a just lovely rendition of hit “A.M. 180″ commenced and Lytle, forever quirky with his music-industry-ness, claimed, “After that song, I was finally able to buy a microwave.” An energetic, totally pleasing set all around. Grandaddy’s reunion moves abroad this week, with a slew of European festival appearances kicking off in Belgium this friday.
