The Fonda transported its audience to a sunny porch with an old wooden swing with Blind Pilot’s soothing folk rock melodies from its latest We Are The Tide. The calming effect of the music was so strong that the Portland band commented on how quiet everyone was, to which someone responded, “We are listening intently!” The friendly band went on to ask the crowd to help sing a chorus line. When the lead singer/guitarist Israel Nebeker gave the example of how it was supposed to be sung, he got a chorus of giggles instead. Although trying to match his incredible voice brought laughter to the audience at first, they gave it their best shot and I dare say pulled it off pretty well considering the competition. Blind Pilot’s tranquil and genuine summer sound humbled its eager listeners. And oddly made at least one audience member crave some sun and strawberry lemonade. Photos by Beth Stirnaman.
