Eamon Fogarty came from New Hampshire and got to L.A. through a zig-zag that took him through Utah nuclear boomtown Moab and finally landed him in Chris Schlarb's storied Long Beach studio, where he recorded his coming Blue Values LP during the winter of 2016. First single "Gods' Guts" (note the position of the apostrophe) is an understandably muted affair, a dissipated soft-rock song with a Scott Walker-gone-Steely Dan thing happening—basically the perfect vibe for wandering around Los Angeles disillusioning yourself, and for realizing that the way you float in the pool is the way you're floating through life. Fogarty's Blue Values is out July 26 on Jealous Butcher, and you can pre-order it here. He'll be touring the west this June and finishing with an L.A. date at Gold Diggers—full dates below. " /> L.A. Eamon Fogarty came from New Hampshire and got to L.A. through a zig-zag that took him through Utah nuclear boomtown Moab and finally landed him in Chris Schlarb‘s storied Long Beach studio, where he recorded his coming Blue Values LP during the winter of 2016. First single “Gods’ Guts” (note the position of the apostrophe) is an understandably muted affair, a dissipated soft-rock song with a Scott Walker-gone-Steely Dan thing happening—basically the perfect vibe for wandering around Los Angeles disillusioning yourself, and for realizing that the way you float in the pool is the way you’re floating through life. (And it’s only through sheer presence of mind that you’re not flailing and drowning, either.) The video by Devin Johnson literalizes this feeling exactly, but the song itself explores another kind of Angeleno paradox. Says Fogarty:

“‘Gods’ Guts’ was the first song I wrote for Blue Values, and it’s a fitting point of entry because it’s about—in a very roundabout way—Los Angeles: I wrote it following the first trip I ever made to the city, which was also the same week I first met and collaborated with my friend and producer on the record, Chris Schlarb. I had been wandering around this strange town where the big ‘industry’—show business—is all about creating gods and illusions, and right next door you have the cults that have settled down and started health food stores or even television networks. The song is sort of a meditation on the way that regardless of its original motivation—be it spiritual or instinctive—certainty and drive eventually start to look the same from the outside. It all blends together into this megalomaniacal—and somehow very American—mess.”

Fogarty’s Blue Values is out July 26 on Jealous Butcher, and you can pre-order it here. He’ll be touring the west this June and finishing with an L.A. date at Gold Diggers—full dates below.
