VIDEO PREMIERE: DAS KOPE “MEET YOU IN THE DARK”
If you are an L.A.-area musician who would like to submit unreleased songs or videos of any genre for premiere, email a stream or download link to email@example.com.
L.A.’s Das Kope moved from Sao Paulo to a metaphysically subterranean apartment in Hollywood and delivered into the light the “Ready For The Summer” video last summer. Now he’s back with the similarly surreal “Meet You In The Dark.” It’s like a Bowie or Lennon solo ballad—so yes, Tame Impala people, wander in here—reincarnated with the highest-slash-dirtiest tech 1990 had to offer, from the pixelated drum sounds to the gloriously primitive VGA visuals. Think sci-fi meets lo-fi in slo-mo—a digital downer about drifting through existence as only a lonely voice in a song, a signal bouncing from planet to empty planet. As a musical and visual metaphor, it’s all about deep space. Kope explains:
“‘Meet You In the Dark’ is about a singer who’s forever stuck inside of a song. His only interaction with the outside world is when a listener connects with the music. In the video, he wanted to create this idea of ‘being stuck forever’ by putting himself in a solitary journey throughout different planets and galaxies. The eyes represent the listener’s effort in trying to be part of this universe, but all they get is a small peek of that neverending journey.”
“Meet You In The Dark” is available here, as are Das Kope’s other singles. No shows yet … but keep watching the skies.
