L.A.’s Flat Worms (interviewed here) slithered out of the depths in 2016, and L.A. RECORD has kept a watchful eye on them ever since. (Their 2017 full-length exploded our reviewer’s mind—clinical documents here.) Now they’re back with the vicious new Into The Iris EP recorded by Ty Segall (interviewed here) and released his GOD? imprint, and opener “Surreal New Year” is a rusty razor of a punk song. No clean cuts here! Instead, it’s bleak, tense, angry—all appropriate New Year’s sentiments—and bleeding with noise and energy a la Sonic Youth’s “Dirty Boots,” and it’s got a hardcore-motorik rhythm section that’d fit right into two or three of the gnarliest Wipers songs, too. Into The Iris is out Fri., Feb. 8, and you can pre-order here. They’ll also play a record release show with Automatic and Kaz Mirblouk on Fri., Feb. 8, at Zebulonget tickets here!
