VIDEO PREMIERE: CALVIN VALENTINE “BAKERY” (F. CHUCK INGLISH)

L.A. producer/rapper/everything-ist Calvin Valentine put out the stand-out Keep Summer Safe solo album this fall on Mello Music, and it was ten tracks that felt like they were floating—the kind of thing where you can tell it took a lot of heavy lifting to make something seem so natural and effortless. Now he’s back with a cheerfully hallucinatory neon-nostalgic video and a remodel/remix of Summer‘s “Bakery.” (As the song explains: “In 2008 / we was getting dough …”) Here Valentine keeps the understated but supremely confident beat—a beat that sounds like those dreamy 8-bit water-level themes that’d get stuck in your head all Saturday afternoon—but knocks out the back wall to make space for a spot-on new verse by the Cool Kids’ Chuck Inglish. Says Valentine: “I wanted to do something special for the ‘Bakery’ video, so I had the idea of doing a remix. I linked with Chuck towards the end of summer and he was the perfect addition for this song.” Valentine’s Keep Summer Safe is available here, and you can keep up with Valentine himself here.
