VIDEO PREMIERE: LARS FINBERG “I’M WELCOME”

July 10th, 2018 | News

Intelligence and more genius (officially) Lars Finberg put out a stand-out album under his own proper name last year, and here comes the cheerfully unsettling video. “I’m Welcome” is some kinda tar-pit mix of Broadcast, Suicide and the Fall—does it brood? yes, it broods—with a cut-up video by director Marianne Spellman featuring disembodied hands and faces in various states of anxiety and despair. (The feel-appropriate song of the summer?) Finberg explains a few moments of what you’re about to see here: “Marianne Spellman asked me yesterday if the lyrics are ‘we know you’re rank’ or ‘we know your rank.’ I clarified it’s taking a quote from our satanic headless horseman of the apocalypse president and spinning it to call him rank. It’s ‘you’re.’ Then poof—the video appeared.” Finberg’s Moonlight Over Bakersfield is available from In The Red Records here!
