VIDEO PREMIERE: BRAINSTORY “FRUITLESS TREES”
We had a lovely talk with Brainstory—including live musical accompaniment—back in July and now they’ve returned with this late-night basic-cable video for “Fruitless Tree,” the stand-out lead track on their recent self-titled mini-album. (Which was ably produced by Chicano Batman’s Eduardo Arenas.) Consider it a glimpse at the old-school version of augmented reality—and all natural, too! They’ll be performing at Long Beach’s Music Tastes Good festival next weekend. Credits and video thesis statement below!
Brainstory’s ‘Fruitless Trees’ is an exploration into the futility of shallow human desire with the band blending in their usual cocktail of psychedelia, groove, and sheer energy. Created and shot in the Inland Empire on a budget of love, this video was put together by some of the I.E.’s finest artists including director and cinematographer Richard P. Hilton (of Lucky Drifter Productions), editing by Jesse Carranza, and features animations by IE artist Deladeso and Bernabé Bolaños.
