ALBUM PREMIERE: THE KLEENRZ “SEASON TWO”

June 9th, 2016 | News

It’s been almost three years since rapper Self Jupiter (of Freestyle Fellowship) and producer Kenny Segal (tons of stuff, but Open Mike Eagle and Busdriver locally/recently) banded together as The Kleenrz, an unshockable duo making their way through the mess and the aftermath of criminal activity. (They’re the guys that pick up after something bad goes down: crime scene cleaners, “mops and bleach shit,” as the sample says.) Now they’re back with the seething Season Two on Alpha Pup Records‘ hip-hop imprint The Order Label. This is the soundtrack to a thousand-yard stare, reinforced with appearances from Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Busdriver and Myka 9—on the menacing “Man Overboard”—and the massive Sach-Abstract Rude-AWOL One-Grouch and Eligh finale “Ghost Recon,” which comes off the like all-or-nothing all-hands-on-deck heist scene at the end of a hardcore hard-R crime thriller. As they explain, “Season Two is left coast, Southern, dark, messy, beautiful, inventive, cool, fun and frothy. However, as always with our music, there’s always nuggets of truths wrapped in with horror that reflects what we see and hear everyday.” Season Two is available tomorrow, June 10, as both vinyl and digital.
