VIDEO PREMIERE: TOMEMITSU “VACATION” (RECORD RELEASE SHOW WED., MAY 18, AT THE SMELL!)

L.A. RECORD is happy to present a new song by So Many Wizards member Tomemitsu, last spotted on L.A. RECORD starring in this little video—but he’s back now with a new solo album two years in the making. Loaf Eye features L.A. RECORD cover alum Colleen Green, fellow So Many Wizards members Devin Ratliff and Erik Felix and Crown Plaza’s Christina Gaillard and James Roehl, and was written (says Tomemitsu) as an excursion into introspection:

“[It’s about] looking inwards and becoming at ease with who I am as a musician and human, rather than the themes of love and loss emphasized on [previous album] m_o_d_e_s. Loaf Eye is more an exploration of the space between folk, shoegaze, and punk music. Working with my friends on this album helped me to develop as a songwriter and engineer and I’m really stoked with how the collaborative songs turned out.”

This gentle and relaxing video (for a gentle and relaxing song) was directed by L.A. producer and polymath ETA, who has future projects with Tomemitsu in the works, and if it happens to make you feel like you’re on vacation, too, that’s all part of the plan. Says Tomemitsu:

“‘Vacation’ is a song that I wrote all the lyrics to while on vacation in Mexico in 2014. I like this song because it brings me back to being on the beach and reading in the shade while the waves roll in. The feelings of total relaxation and peacefulness come back to me when I hear and play this one. I had also begun a new relationship just before leaving for Mexico, so my trip was filled with bubbling uncertainty and eagerness for love.”

Tomemitsu’s record release show for Loaf Eye will be Wed., May 18, at the Smell with Samira’s Infinite Summer and Arjuna Genome—info here!
