Led by former Mean Reds frontman—as well as Dan Monick’s DJ partner and all-round inscrutable visionary Anthony Anzalone, Mikki and the Mauses, celebrate the release of the debut album The Problem with Male Sexuality at The Smell tonight, a show that also serves as a kick off for their West Coast tour with Moment Trigger, Deracine.

The seven songs on The Problem With Male Sexuality—released digitally and as a VHS (includes MP3 download card) alternate between furred-over lo-fi noise-punk a la GSL and 31G and cheerful but cracked pop songs like Sparks and Devo.

Why VHS? “Because I’m a dick,” says Anzalone when we called him up and surprised him by asking a bunch of questions. “There is something romantic about finding new uses for essentially trash. And I understand not being wanted.”
