Sam Farzin books shows as Acrobatics Everyday down at UCI in Irvine, and in the last year he has brought great bands to a part of Orange County where all-ages shows are scarcer than they should be. Thanks to him, BARR, the Muslims, Lucky Dragons, Abe Vigoda, Japanther, PROTECT ME, Indian Jewelry, Mt. Eerie, the unbelievable Peter Walker, Wounded Lion, Mae Shi and tons tons more have all played probably some of their first and only shows in OC. But now the University wants to force Sam to book shows in expensive-to-rent lecture halls and student-center rooms (instead of the affordable and student-center rooms he currently uses) instead of the classrooms and portable spaces he currently uses, which would effectively end the Acrobatics Everyday live events! He asks that you email him messages of support at acrobaticseveryday@gmail.com so he can show the administration that he is doing something that people value. His statement below but please email him before it’s too late!
it’s been almost a year and what a year it has been. thank you for coming.
in the first months, there was a lot of unnecessary stress caused in the struggle to simply booking rooms on campus. luckily, some friendly folks have made it easier since the summer to book rooms.
however, once again, we are in a position of great stress. the university has told me that acrobatics everyday events will have to occur in almost only lecture halls, barring the student center rooms (which in no-chair configurations cost $100s to use). now it is pretty obvious that the majority of events acrobatics everyday puts on would not befit a lecture hall; in addition, lecture halls are notoriously difficult to book. all in all, the campus still does not respect what acrobatics everyday does.
i am going to attempt to discuss these issues with the head of scheduling this coming week. when i go in i will attempt to once again explain to the bureaucracy why acrobatics everyday is necessary, how much time and effort has been put in by so many people with no tangible reward, and how bright the future could be.
what i ask of you:
if you have ever come and seen a show (or wanted to) or if you appreciate the availability of non-profit live music, please consider writing a brief comment in support of acrobatics everyday. i want to show them what acrobatics everyday means and how their stifling rules cannot work for every single scenario. i will present a list of comments to the administrators. you do not have to include your name. i will present the comments by as much information you want to give me (student, grad year, community member, etc).
i can’t take the notion of a campus where christo-fascists are free and welcome to parade their hate and yell at students for hours while the same students have to jump through hoops to simply borrow a space for 3 or 4 hours.
the best case scenario is the establishment of a trailer or space on campus where acrobatics everyday can live.
so, help acrobatics everyday! please write a comment.
email all comments to ACROBATICSEVERYDAY@GMAIL.COM
support is appreciated.

Hello Sam!
As a fellow OC Talent Buyer booking concerts at non-profit organizations, I feel the work you’ve done with Acrobatics Everyday is unprecedented. This county has so little to offer in the realm of unique, music driven events and AE fills the void. The programming is intelligent, the artists are incredible, and the demographic it caters to needs the event as an outlet and inspiration for future creative endeavors. I hope that UCI understands what a vital role your work and Acrobatics Everyday plays in the school, the local music scene, and the community overall. If there’s anything further I can do to assist you in these current efforts please let me know. I’d be happy to send out an eblast to my promotional list on the matter if you think it beneficial.
All the best to you Sam. You and your work is very much appreciated.
Much love,

I’ve never put on events at UCI, so I can only imagine the troubles Sam has seen.
On another note, how come this post doesn’t have a date on it? I’m at KUCI and so is Sam and I never heard anything about this. I’m out of the loop, doesn’t feel good.

Sam
I will take a shot at this because I’m so impressed with the work you’ve done with Acrobatics Everyday. The shows you’ve brought to UCI campus seem to be what a lot of the students want to see, and for that reason alone, the school should consider how valuable the shows are. Students can see what they would otherwise have to travel out of Orange County to see in many cases. So, it simply keeps students here in the convenience and safety of campus, and probably saves them a good chunk of money. I would think students and their parents alike would appreciate that as well as how this enhances a students connection to campus life at UCI. If I were a parent of a UCI student, I would be very much in favor of Acrobatics Everyday having a secure place on campus.

Sam!!! Acrobatics Everyday is truly an amazing outlet for independent musicians. As a UCI student, you should be able to hold these types of events on campus, especially when it is meant to bring the college and music community together. Acrobatics Everyday deserves to be on campus. This is a positive initiative to bringing the community together and celebrate music. I will make sure to post this info. on my blogs and spread the word.

I hope there is a resolution to this situation that will allow these wonderful events to continue. These are the only happenings of their kind in our sheltered county and it would be a shame to lose them. I hope acrobatics everyday will go on either way. It is really a wonderful thing you do Sam.
