Via L.A. Times‘ Pop and Hiss blog:
Scrappy little Safari Sam’s nightclub has shifted operations to downtown L.A. The move comes after club owner Sam Lanni lost his lease on the Sunset Boulevard location where he’s been hosting a variety of pop shows since 2006.
The new location, with capacity for 700 people, is at the Regent Theatre at 4th and Main streets, and live events will resume on Friday (Oct. 24) with 45 Grave, followed Sunday and Nov. 2 by the Emergenza Festival. The Tiger Lillies appear Nov. 6, Junkyard will play Nov. 15 and Fastball arrives on Nov. 17.
The new venue will be billed as Safari Sam’s at the Regent Theatre, and the club’s all-ages policy will continue in the new space. Safari Sam’s will still operate a full restaurant and bar. A club spokeswoman said parking challenges at the old site will be alleviated by a large parking lot adjacent the theater.
The Regent is at 448 S. Main St., the new phone number is (213) 327-2220, and the website remains www.safari-sams.com.
