Wild Wing, who normally deal in heavy-to-crushingly-heavy punk-y/psych-y rock. On "Triumph," however, they cut out everything but the cool steel frame of the song and bring in some synthesizers to fill out the space. The intense and unsettling result is somewhere between a Devo deep cut (especially on the topic and the backing vocals) and a Neu! outtake, with some animal desperation in the vocals just to make sure this still fits in with the rest of the wild Wild Wing discography. "Triumph" is from Wild Wing's New Futures, out today, and the band will play a record release show tonight (presented by Pretty But Wicked) at Non Plus Ultra. Lyrics below!" /> L.A. Record

From the future-now department comes this unexpected new song by L.A.’s Wild Wing, who normally deal in heavy-to-crushingly-heavy punk-y/psych-y rock. On “Triumph,” however, they cut out everything but the cool steel frame of the song and bring in some synthesizers to fill out the space. The intense and unsettling result is somewhere between a Devo deep cut (especially on the topic and the backing vocals) and a Neu! outtake, with some animal desperation in the vocals just to make sure this still fits in with the rest of the wild Wild Wing discography. As the band tells us:

“We tried a completely different songwriting approach for this song. We took away the guitars and bass, the instruments we have always used while writing songs, and composed with a few different synthesizers. The limitations took the song in an unexpected direction that felt like new territory. Our friend Jackson Katz [of Brutus VIII and Slow Hollows] co-produced the song and contributed on synths.”

“Triumph” is from Wild Wing’s New Futures, out today, and the band will play a record release show tonight (presented by Pretty But Wicked) at Non Plus Ultra. Lyrics below!

“Triumph”

I see my fate in my dreams
(Triumph, triumph)
I wanna be the only one
Legacy, legacy, let me see legacy
While you all waste away

I am him, I am him

Holy ghost, say my name
I wanna be the only one
Legacy, legacy, let me see legacy
Stay asleep in your bed

I am him, I am him
