TRACK PREMIERE: ALEX LILLY “DISTRACTING ME”
Alex Lilly has been a part of plenty of lovely local albums—including releases by Dengue Fever, the Bird and the Bee, the Living Sisters and more—and in January she’ll be putting out her debut full-length release 2% Milk. Lead single “Distracting Me” is a light (but not slight) pop song with a punchy beat and engaging twisty-turny melodies, written about how romance re-orders priorities—and how every so often the unexpected choice turns out to be the right one. For Lilly, that made for a happily literal song about how something she tried at first not to notice became something she wanted most of all: “What’s a better testament to loving or liking someone than when you enjoy their interruptions?” she says. “I resisted a particular friend’s efforts to distract me for a long time but when I finally gave in, I realized it was fun.” Lilly’s “Distracting Me” is available tomorrow, and 2% Milk is out on Jan. 11 via Inara George‘s new Release Me label.
