TRACK PREMIERE: ANDREW RINEHART “INTERDIMENSIONAL NONCONVERSATIONAL INCONSEQUENTIAL LOVE”

October 2nd, 2018 | Listen

We covered Andrew Rinehart‘s Nothing/Everything album many years ago, but now he’s out of grad school and back in L.A.—that explains the long gap—and back to using his brain for making music. And fittingly, he sounds a little different. Nothing was desolate Americana, but “Interdimensional” is Godzilla-sized Blue Oyster Cult riffery delivered like a Sonic Youth deep cut: confusion transformed into noise, with plenty of space for the guitar to crumble and disintegrate. Says Rinehart: “‘Interdimensional…’ is about being a manager at a Best Buy and getting into an intensely pleasurable yet toxic interaction pattern with a customer whom you find yourself developing feelings for. In other words, it’s about being stuck in some kind of energetic lock with a person you’ll never actually be able to be with.” (For more complicated Best Buy romance, check here.) Rinehart has a few shows in Louisville if you’re out there—info below!
