ALBUM PREMIERE: ZACKEY FORCE FUNK ‘BODYROCK SHOTGUN’
Zackey Force Funk is back on the attack with his new Bodyrock Shotgun album, due out tomorrow on the mighty Mofunk—and if you’re unfamiliar with the magic this man works, think funk, crime and sizzling neon. On Shotgun, Zackey meets a murderer’s row of modern funk producers, which gives this record the feel of some movie too hot for even the most lurid 80s cable channel. First there’s XL Middleton‘s slinky/sleazy title track, and then Brian Ellis gives “Glass Dick Lovin'” (also featuring I, Ced) a perfectly fitting cosmic-paranoid city-streets-at-night feel. Boy Dude drops some cybernetically augmented pop for the ferociously charismatic “Money Weighs A Ton,” Throwback Zack adds gloss, style and momentum to the slow-burner “Dead On Arrival” and Adam Chini—Boy Dude’s brother—closes the album with the neck-snapping “Get The Gun.” Zackey himself is in fine form here, strutting through these mean streets with story after story to tell as his producers push to outdo each other with every track. Tell your getaway driver to get it here—on vinyl, CD and absolutely of course cassette—on Fri., July 20.
