TRACK PREMIERE: LUKE TOP “I’VE BEEN WORKIN'”
L.A.’s Luke Top has been part of interesting things all the way back to Fool’s Gold and beyond, and now after a more-than-short gap in his solo discography, he’s announcing his new The Dumb-Show EP. It’s slated for release this October on Grand Gallop and ORG Music, home of his 2016 full-length Suspect Highs, and this first single “I’ve Been Workin'” was recorded in Top’s own studio with guest drummer Kyle Crane (Daniel Lanois and Neko Case) and upright bassist Seth Ford-Young (Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros).
“Workin'” is the exact kind of song you’d describe as “ebullient”: three minutes of pop so charming it’s got handshakes instead of hooks, with quietly expert production that gets this glowing with a hundred different colors at once. Says Top: “‘I’ve Been Workin'” is a tender ode to those maniacal voices in our heads that are often angling to work against our better nature.” Keep up with Luke here and watch for The Dumb-Show on Fri., Oct. 19!
