TRACK PREMIERE: JAMES V “TELEVISION”

June 15th, 2018 | Listen

L.A. waking-dreamer James V is back with the new “Television,” four minutes flat (or not so flat) of squishy-squashy AOR-tar that’s got a pop primal-scream-era Lennon vocal dissolving in some Eno-y primordial production soup, and of course it’s a song named for the second-messiest medium out there. (You’re reading this on the first.) This was mixed with help from Sean Guerin of De Lux and it’s available digitally now via Marriage Records and Gnar Tapes and physically—extremely physically—in the form of special actual old-school cathode-ray tube TV sets that James V has rigged to play this song and only this song, “like a one-tune jukebox,” he says. “Kind of like mini art installations that you can take home with you.”

To emphasize how cool and unique this is: when you order a copy of the song “Television,” you will get a television that can only play “Television.” Is there a more fitting way this single could be released? The “Television” televisions will be available for pre-order from James V here, so you can start clearing desk space for them now. And before his debut full-length comes out this September, James V will be doing a short West-ish Coast-ish tour with Death RecordsNequaquam Vacuum—kick-off show at the Hi Hat on July 10 and full dates below:
