Rapper Fat Tony (recently mentioned in our cover story on producer Morris) and producer and hometown hero Kyle Mabson are about to put out their debut full-length as Charge It To The Game, and these are the first two songs: the propulsive “Bad Boy,” featuring rapper and mythic literary figure Juiceboxxx, and the relentless “Y.B.N.,” which features genre-destroying Houstonian B L A C K I E. Says Tony:

“B L A C K I E is a fellow Houstonian and the friend that’s inspired me the most as an artist from our shared interests in punk to the DIY values he lives by. We first met in 2008 performing on the same bill at my ex-girlfriend’s art show. He set up a huge stack of speakers and blasted the room with noisy beats reminiscent of Three 6 Mafia while screaming his heart out at us all. I bought his Wilderness of North America CD, took it home, and cried reading the lyric sheet to “Knives,” thinking about my own recent regrets. He took me on my first tour in 2011. I’ll always hold him in the highest regard and this is our first song together since 2008.

I met Juiceboxxx at SXSW 2006 backstage at the Mad Decent and IHEARTCOMIX party. We had mutual friends in Ninjasonik and he was already a DIY legend by the time we met. Juiceboxxx even performed at my 24th birthday party at my first L.A. home in 2012. He’s introduced me to countless friends and collaborators from White Fang [Gnar Tapes] to Dre Skull to Kyle Mabson. There may be no Charge It To The Game without J.B. I’m honored to have him on our latest album and to have yet another jam with the most genuine, focused artist I’ve ever met.”

And says Mabson:

“B L A C K I E is our guy. Tony introduced us and I was actually the first person to book him in Los Angeles—coincidentally it was Antwon’s first L.A. show as well. He is a real legend and was so amped when he was down to be on our track. Juiceboxxx is one of my best friends of like 12 years? We even lived together at some point. Me and Tony actually met through Juiceboxxx. The king of nu rap rock.”
