Alex Rose put four years and thousands of miles into her coming Arcadian Pages album—it's music and literature in moments she caught along the back roads and side streets of California, New York, Texas and more. And now that she's landed in L.A., she's about to put it out into the world. "Elephant Eyes" is a spare and deliberate experiment in negative space, where every note gets the room it needs to fully bloom—especially in the second half of the song, thanks to multi-instrumentalist Anni Rossi delivering a melodic counterpoint via a one-of-a-kind instrument. Singer-songwriter Alex Rose put four years and thousands of miles into her coming Arcadian Pages album—it’s music and literature in moments she caught along the back roads and side streets of California, New York, Texas and more. And now that she’s landed in L.A., she’s about to put it out into the world. “Elephant Eyes” is a spare and deliberate experiment in negative space, where every note gets the room it needs to fully bloom—especially in the second half of the song, thanks to multi-instrumentalist Anni Rossi delivering a melodic counterpoint via a one-of-a-kind instrument.

Says Rose: “I wrote the lyrics for ‘Elephant Eyes’ in my car, parked on a side street in the hills just outside of Palm Springs. I played it the same way for a few years until Anni Rossi came magically into my world to work on this album and co-produced this current arrangement. The bassy guitar sound you hear is Anni’s rad instrument—it’s actually an electric viola fashioned out of a tree branch that her friend Thor Harris [from Swans] made.”

Rose’s Arcadian Pages is out Fri., Nov. 10—pre-order it here!
