Tracy Bryant found not just a new sound but a new voice after his much-missed band Corners, and last year's solo debut Subterranean came through so clearly that it was more a mirror than a self-portrait. Now he's got a new album almost out, and here's a glimpse. Bryant's A Place for Nothing And Everything in its Place is out Oct. 20 on Burger, and he'll be playing a quick Palm Springs festival slot (with Best Coast, Nick Waterhouse and Shannon and the Clams) before heading to Europe in December. TRACK PREMIERE: TRACY BRYANT “A CROWDED ROOM”

October 6th, 2017 | Listen

Tracy Bryant found not just a new sound but a new voice after his much-missed band Corners, and last year’s solo debut Subterranean came through so clearly that it was more a mirror than a self-portrait. Now he’s got a new album almost out, and here’s a glimpse: “A Crowded Room” is a subtle and sharp song born somewhere between way-pre-fame R.E.M. and bands like Green On Red and the Dream Syndicate, who drove the sound and spirit of the Byrds and the Velvet Underground out to the dark edge of the desert. Bryant’s strength is his precision—that’s why he works so well on a 4-track—and on “Room” there’s not a moment of hesitation, over-correction or confusion. (Despite what the lyrics say!) Instead, he says what he came to say—which is a lot harder than it sounds. Bryant’s A Place for Nothing And Everything in its Place is out Oct. 20 on Burger, and he’ll be playing a quick Palm Springs festival slot (with Best Coast, Nick Waterhouse and Shannon and the Clams) before heading to Europe in December.
